2019 Honda HR-V vs Mazda CX-3
Regardless of whether you live in Santa Ana, Tustin, or Rancho Santa Margarita, you’ve probably heard of the Honda HR-V and the Mazda CX-3—after all, these are two of the most popular SUVs in all of California.
And that’s exactly why our Norm Reeves Honda Irvine team has decided to create this helpful crossover comparison. Read through it, and then get in touch with us if you’d like to schedule an exclusive test drive!
Driver-Assistive Safety Technologies
One of the first things that you should know about the HR-V is that it’s equipped with the available Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies. Take a look at all of the help that you will have:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
- Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
- Collision Mitigation Braking Systemâ„¢ (CMBSâ„¢)
Interestingly enough, the CX-3 offers many comparable safety and driver-assistive technologies. They call their suite i-ACTIVSENSE®, and it also relies upon state-of-the-art sensors and cameras to promote safety.
Passenger Dimensions and Cargo Space
Honda’s 2019 HR-V also excels when it comes to the amount of room that your friends and family members will have to stretch out and relax. For example, those in the front seats will enjoy up to 39.5 inches of headroom, 41.2 inches of legroom, 56.8 inches of shoulder room, and 53.1 inches of hip room; those in the back seats can kick it with 38.3 inches of headroom, 39.3 inches of legroom, 54.5 inches of shoulder room, and 47.4 inches of hip room. And how does Mazda’s 2019 CX-3 stack up? Not very well.
Front-seat passengers can only count on 38.4 inches of headroom, 53.5 inches of shoulder room, and 52.3 inches of hip room, while back-seat passengers can only look forward to 37.2 inches of headroom, 35.0 inches of legroom, and 50.4 inches of shoulder room. Can it redeem itself with its cargo space? Unfortunately, it cannot.
The Honda HR-V provides a whopping 23.2 cubic feet or 57.6 cubic feet for cargo (depending on how you arrange the seats), while the Mazda CX-3 measures in at a mere 12.4 cubic feet and 44.5 cubic feet, respectively.
Advanced All-Wheel Drive Systems
However, one department where the two match up well is in their all-wheel drive systems. Honda has their available Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System™ and Mazda has their available iACTIV AWD®. Either one of these will assist you in your quest to get off the beaten path and explore a little bit. They’ll promote your traction by distributing power to whichever axle needs it the most—and that means that you can focus more on the beautiful scenes around you instead of turning around and heading back.
