Each SUV is equipped with three rows of seating, although the Pilot offers room for eight passengers while the Explorer is limited to just seven passengers. The Pilot offers 152.9 cubic feet of cabin space while the Explorer features 151.5 cubic feet. This difference in space can be seen throughout the seats with varying legroom and headroom, but the biggest differences are with the cargo space.

Both SUVs offer more than 16 cubic feet of cargo space behind their third rows. When you fold the third rows down, the Pilot offers 46.8 cubic feet and the Explorer offers 43.9 cubic feet. When the second rows are also folded down in each SUV, the Pilot features 83.9 cubic feet and the Explorer only offers 81.7 cubic feet of cargo space.

Driver-Assistance Technology

The Honda Pilot comes standard with Honda Sensing®. It’s a suite of driver-assisting technologies that rely on exterior mounted radar sensors that can detect approaching objects while factoring in the vehicle’s speed to accurately predict a potential collision. The Pilot includes Forward Collision Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking System™, Lane Keeping Assist System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and more. The Ford Explorer offers a similar Reverse Sensing System, however there’s an upgrade required to include those advanced safety features with the vehicle.
