Honda Maintenance Minder Service Codes Explained

If you drive a Honda, you likely know about the Maintenance Minder system that keeps you up to speed on routine service. Those considering a Honda for their own drives around Santa Ana, Mission Viejo, or Tustin, CA, will also want to learn about these codes so that they know the next steps.

In the following article, we’ll explain more about these Honda Maintenance Minder codes. Find out what letters and numbers correspond to your current need. Then, schedule an appointment at Norm Reeves Honda Superstore Irvine!

What Do the Honda Maintenance Minder Service Codes Mean?

The Honda Maintenance Minder Service codes will vary from model to model. For instance, a manual transmission calls for different maintenance than an automatic one. It’s best to have your owner’s manual on hand for your unique model to verify what each code means.

For many models, the codes are shared and indicate the same service. These codes are noted using either numbers or letters. We break these down into two sections below, so you can easily scan for your code.

Letters

The two letters used are A and B. They will mean the following:

A

The A minder code is simple to remember, as it only means an oil change. This routine need is done on the daily here, so stop by for an appointment when you see this.

B

The B code is a little more involved and calls for a number of inspections. Along with an oil change, we will also look at the following:

  • Brake system (include parking brake, hoses, and lines)
  • Steering & suspension systems
  • Exhaust system
  • Driveshaft boots
  • Fuel lines

In addition, we will check all current fluid levels and make sure they’re at the right level.

Numbers

You might instead see a number on your Maintenance Minder. In that event, it could mean the following is needed:

  • 1: tire rotation & inflation check
  • 2: new air cleaner element & dust filter; drive belt inspection
  • 3: new automatic transmission fluid & transfer assembly fluid
  • 4: new spark plugs & timing belt; water pump & valve clearance inspection
  • 5: new engine coolant
  • 6: new rear differential fluid
  • 7: new brake fluid

As we noted previously, some of these needs will be different between various models. For example, if your Honda has a manual or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), the Maintenance Minder code of 3 will pertain to those fluids. For the most part, however, the codes will be similar if not the same.
